How can i transfer a VHS video to computer file?

i wanted to transfer my parent's wedding video onto a computer so i could burn it onto a disc. They've had the original transferred onto VHS format years ago but i wanted to have it digitised. What cables or programmes would i need to do it myself, or woul it be cheaper to get it done by a pro
