My boyfriend and his ex...what should i do?

okay. so im going out with this guy. and ive liked him for almost a year now. and he finally asked me out the other day. heres were the drama starts. his ex still "loves" him even though she just tried to get him put in jail for something he didnt do. i really really like him. and so does my mom and my family. but i dont want any **** to start with his ex. i know how it feels to have a broken heart the way she does. but IF she does love him whys she doing this to him? and what am i suppose to do about the drama??
