What is up with the bigotry in United States?

I think the problems started when they decided that people didn't have to go to state sanctioned schools. Americans are becoming less and less educated, and with a rise in ignorance, comes a rise in bigotry. Everything that presidents from Lincoln on til Kennedy have tried to achieve has been eroded by Nixon, Regan and the Bushes. I truly think that the only hope for America lies in Hilary Clinton being elected.( I'm Canadian, by the way)
