Black history month (in your opinion am i wrong)?

I was thinking back to my school days and we were all ask to do a peice(presentation) about black history.of course we all wanted to do it on mahammad ali but the teacher said no sports persons.i decided not to do it as i am white and think black history should be presented by black people(which really was all a lie i just didn't want to do any work at all).anyway this caused a big problem my teacher knew that i didn't want to do any work at all so she let it slide.later my mother was ask to come to school to talk to the headteacher(principal) about my attitude towards black people.he said in not partaking with black history month your directly insulting black people.i had to make an argument that black history is important and that it means more coming from black people than it dose from any other race.he then called me a racist in turn led to my mother slapping him in the face.i know what i am and am not thats not the issue but do you think it is right of him to call me a racist.
